Community Food Support
Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories
Hello! This page is to centralize resources for the Community Food Support Initiative on Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories.
The goal of the initiative is to make food more accessible to students and community members during COVID-19.
In Brief: COVID-19 has left many in our community financially strained, and has exacerbated existing food insecurity. Students and many others have been left without expected summer jobs, or government funding. We have created partnerships with the Food Distribution Warehouse, The UVic Sustainability Project and local grocery stores including Fairways and Peppers to provide free food hampers for delivery to students and community members. Volunteer drivers will pick up food from participating locations and transport it to the Fairfield Community Center where it will be safely sorted into individual hampers. We have implemented detailed health and safety standards for volunteers participating in the program to ensure it is as safe as possible. Students and community members who are facing barriers to accessing food can fill out a google form and request a free box for pick up or delivery.
